Holy Cow.

It's been a long time.
I mean, since I've even had anything worth posting on here.
Summer was fantastic, but I'm so happy to be working away again!

Here is my newest illustration for Editorial Illustration.
The project was to create an image based off of a specific area of the State fair.
Four finished pieces will be printed in the Star Tribune along with a little article about us artists and the state fair. Otherwise, all of them will be online, which is super awesome! For my "topic" I chose the Miracle of Birth Center. I chose that topic because on the day I went to the first day of the fair with my Mum and brothers, we got to witness the birth of a baby calf in the first hour of being there!

So I took a lot of pictures. Mostly of kids. I think it's so funny to see them watching these sort of processes go on.
Very intriguing and kind of funny.

Anyhoo, here's the piece! 11"x11" pen, acrylic ink, and markers.

Enjoy!

Flower Bursts

Oh my gosh it's been a while...
So I'm doing designs for a company called Hadley Table based out of Edina.

I'm commissioned to do a lot of different designs, so today I worked specifically on "Flower Bursts" to be arranged on masonite place mats.

Take a look!

100% illustrator, and done by ME. Please don't steal them because they not only belong to me, but the company I made them for.

I also got word that the Seashell drawings for the place mats I did over winter break are actually going to be a PRODUCT in September.
Once I get some of them I will share.

Enjoy these little goodies! They're definitely reminiscent of the weather outside!

Giant Color Study Dump

Yes, these are all done exclusively in technical pen and acrylic inks. Each of them are about 9"x9"
Enjoy, and don't steal! I'm kind of fond of these.
If you want a print, let me know! I found tons of nice printing paper on the free shelf!

Having an argument with yourself

The end of the semester is here and I'm floundering around with final projects.
Here is one of them. Based off of a metaphor of our choice, I chose "Having and Argument with Yourself".
I like it.
And plus I needed an excuse to draw a deer...
9"x16" pen and acrylic ink.

Nature!

Well, here's a new piece.
It's about the coexistence of life and death in nature.
See if you can spot all the bugs, a hidden soda can and a bottle cap.
It's pen, watercolor, acrylic ink, and marker.

I'll have more color studies up later too.

Grey Days Illustration No. 2

Another grey days illustration for illustration 4.
Acrylic ink, watercolor, colored pencil, technical pen, marker and salt.

The scan looks a little too muddy for me, but TRUST ME, it's way better in real life.

Enjoy!

More!

I failed to post these two other illustrations from a couple weeks ago!
They're both 22"x30", watercolor, acrylic ink, pen and colored pencil.
They're about 2 different desires, one inherent (to appear attractive to a mate) and one learned (to exercise)

Grey Days... or Gray Days. Whichever.

I just finished this illustration.
It's pen, acrylic ink, a tiny bit of watercolor, and lots o' salt!

I also had my junior review on Monday!
I was incredibly nervous about it, in the end it was really great.
I got a LOT of good feedback, and a LOT of constructive feedback.
I couldn't be happier with the way it went :)

Have a good night/day!

Mock-up

The bag is officially mocked up.

White base with the pattern on front and back. Magenta ribbon with a little bird tag attached with black ribbon. The bag is about 7 3/4"x9 3/4".
I also changed up the colors according to the critique that we had on it. I lightened the big flowers, everything that is blue and the hearts.

Enjoy!

GAAH

It's been a while, and I literally have two three illustrations that I have yet to scan and get onto my computer. So I'll have those up as soon as I get them back.

But for the meantime, here is a pattern that I made for a baby shower gift bag:

I mocked up the bag itself last night, so I'll snap a picture of it and put it up on here soon.
Enjoy this tiny shred of what I've been working on lately!

Skateboard and New Illustration

Hey guys!

So, I have a new waterfall illustration that is ink and watercolor, 22"x30" that took barely any time at all. But I had a hard time scanning it.

I also just finished my skateboard design for product.
I love it honestly, and was SO HAPPY when I realized that colored pencil for the color looked WAY better than acrylic. So, it's acrylic (the black and white) with colored pencil.

Enjoy! I also cracked and joined Twitter for some reason.
Time to start my final assignment for the week!

Love,
Mary
